The Wizard
I was quite lucky when it was discovered that the subject of our animated sequence featuring our two characters turned out to be a chase, as I had developed mine on the bases of two conflicting personalities. An innocent, sweet but overly enthusiastic young Witch and her crochety, bitter, self-doubting mentor, the Wizard.
Designing the wizard caused me a fair deal of struggle. I knew what his personality was, however I couldn't differentiate him from every other crochety Wizard I'd seen in media. I believe it's reflected in his early designs. I wouldn't be satisfied with any of these designs until I decided to make the Wizard female. Now I knew why she was so grumpy! In addition to struggling with mastering sorcery, she'd have to deal with the assumption that she was either a witch or a man because whose ever heard of a female wizard? And to top it all off, now she's been landed a talented, overly happy, troublesome little witch.
When I knew this, finding a look for the Wizard became much easier. Her head had gone from triangle, to diamond, to star-like but I held on the vulture like haunch in the shoulders.
